Hey there!

My name is Karis and I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota where I live with my husband Kosta and our English bull dog Gracie. I’m the content creator, photographer and recipe developer here at Root + Savor! My mission is to help you connect with food in a healthy way. You can find recipes from Paleo Crispy Baked Chicken to healthier chocolate desserts to How to Make Homemade Bone Broth. I’ve been cooking in the kitchen since I could reach the stove (actually, before that cause I’d stand on the stool with a wooden spoon and help my Mom stir the Japanese curry–I didn’t grow up with traditional American food!) I’m a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner who is passionate about wholistic health in the home and the mindset that food is medicine. I believe that no diet is “one size fits all” and that we all have a food journey worth discovering based on bio-individuality. I’m not here to tell you how to eat–I’m here to guide you into the kitchen and help you learn the best way for YOU to eat.

Hey there! My name is Karis and I’m from Minnesota, although I don’t know anything about hot dishes, jello fruit salad, or canned casseroles. See, my Mom grew up in Japan and learned how to cook miso soup and fermented soybeans and sushi.
